24

Attention: The following post contains SPOILERS with regards to the first season of 24. If you are one of the 7 people in the continental United States who have not watched, but still plan to watch, the first season, then you may not want to read further...

Well, we finally watched the first season of 24. For those of you who have not seen the show (or have forgotten what happened), let me sum it up.

A little after midnight on the day of the California presidential primary, a bunch of domestic terrorists arrange to kidnap the wife and daughter of Jack Baur, a counter terrorism unit ("CTU") agent stationed in California. About 13 to 14 hours later, all of the domestic terrorists are dead (along with a bunch of CTU agents).

In the afternoon, these novice terrorists are replaced by a bunch of uber-elite Eastern European terrorists (which is where, as any fan of Die Hard knows, uber-elite terrorists are spawned). About 10 to 11 hours later, all of the uber-elite terrorists are dead, except the one that infiltrated CTU to begin with.

Oh, and during the day, Jack kills a bunch of people, threatens to kill a bunch of others, breaks a lot of laws and saves the life of the democratic presidential nominee a couple of times.

Good stuff.

Lessons learned:

1. Don't mess with Jack Baur. You will be dead within 24 hours.
2. If you are a "good guy" and assigned to provide backup to Jack or his family, then you will be dead within 24 hours. (I mean, how many CTU teams are there in Los Angeles?)

Issues:

1. Did Jack's wife really have to die at the end? That was a little too much for me. Kind of defeats the purpose of his running around scaring innocents and getting his people knocked off.
2. Nina as the mole? Are you serious? Dang.

Don't worry, we were warned that Season 1 was not the best season, but was somewhat necessary to get a better "feel" for the later years (or days).
And, by the way, Jack's got my vote.

Were you directing the "If you are one of the 7 people in the continental United States who have not watched" comment at us? Spen and I are very offended.:)

Sounds like a good show. He has my vote, since none of the other guys(and gal) do it for me.

We purposely didn't watch the first season because the whole subject matter left a bad taste in my mouth. Season 2 is sooo much better.

I feel so sorry for Jack and hope that these are not consecutive days.

I do think that last season (I can't rememeber what day it is) went a little over the top...and I heard they are having a woman president this year -- too much Hillary for me. So I think I am done with 24...Do you watch Lost? Nathan & Allison have watched all 4 seasons in about 2 weeks. It is the best show on DVD...

Lastly, Ron's College Republicans passed out recrutiment flyers with pictures of Jack Bauer that said "WWJBD" instead of "WWJD" (what would Jesus do.) It was good.

I guess I don't count as one of the "7 on the continent" but I haven't seen it either. Is it good? I didn't read on. Maybe one day I'll rent it.

I still can't believe that there are people out there that haven't seen Jack.
