The Heat is On

I have that song in my head. I don't know what song it is, but you know the one when they sing "The Heat is On." You can't sing it without banging your head back and forth. You know that one ? :) Ok, so Let the Weekly Randomness begin:

It is incredible hot here. I did not think it could be so hot in October. I have been proven wrong. I overheard some mothers at the park today say it's suppose to rain on Saturday and be 60 degrees. I Can't Wait!

David standing in front of the fan laughing and enjoying the cool air.

Our McCain/Palin sign was stolen from our front yard on Monday. It lasted about 5 days. I'm tempted to go get another one and then hide my video camera to see who stole it. It would not surprise me if it's our landlady. She's kind of crazy.

Had our second earthquake since living here. Did NOT feel it. So that makes it two earthquakes that I have lived through, but NOT felt. Yep, didn't feel the first one either. The next one probably will be big enough for me to feel. That is why I'm trying to get PREPARED - 72 hour kit, food, water, blah, blah, blah.

Jon is working lots. This whole economic situation has gotten him BUSY. At least he is enjoying the work he is doing. He is working with the nice woman that lets him come home for an hour at night to help me put the kids to bed. One of the biggest blessings of living 8 minutes from the office.

Registered to vote. I think I'm voting for Ron Paul. hehehe. j/k.

Micah got accepted to a preschool, but the trick is he has to be potty trained. He starts November 1st. Diapers are so much easier. It's hard to potty train a kid that doesn't really want to combined with my attitude of not really wanting to deal with the mess of it all. If he goes to this preschool this year then he's automatically in for Pre-K year which would be a huge relief so that's my motivation. Any tips anyone on how to train a kid to use the toilet when he thinks it's scary to use? I'm open for suggestions. Just don't judge me for not potty training my kid by now. Seriously, diapers are nice:)

After going out with some work friends last week I learned/was reminded that drunk people can be: nice, mean, horny, loud, or all of the above. Don't drink. I've never had this temptation and last week was just a reminder of how thankful I am for the Word of Wisdom. Oh, how wise it is.

Can you say adorable?

I love my kids. David is absolutely adorable. My heart just melts looking at him. Micah has such a sweet tender heart. He loves to give his dad a pound dog and high five when his daddy has to leave for work. He also is full of random knowledge. Like the other day he was playing in bamboo trees at a Beverly Hills park. I told him they were Bamboo trees and he says to me "Yeah, I know Mom. Pandas live in them." He was so astute. Made me laugh. Then there is Lucas and I have to say that 5 is a magical age. I love it, but at the same time am humbled by it. Love that he is becoming so independent and thriving on growing up. At the same time humbled knowing that part of him doesn't need me as much. Today, we were at the park and he was playing basketball on the courts. They actually had a real basketball hoop that is the right height for 6-7 year olds. I watched him play with two older boys. He was shooting with such perfect form. I was amazed. I had taught him how a few days ago, but did not have a hoop for him to play on so I didn't think he'd really get much out of the lesson. Watching him shoot the ball and make it almost brought tears to my eyes. Literally, because if any of you knew the love I had for the game back in the day you'd know why I'd have mixed emotions of him choosing this particular sport over say like soccer. If only. But he loves basketball. In January he'll start playing in a league. Dad, I know you'd be proud.

For the Love of the Game.

Well, enough rambling. I should go to bed. I think I'm getting a cold. Don't worry Jon is going to bring home orange juice when he comes home - whenever that'll be.

Goodnight.

Ah, this post reminded me of my life. The fourth quarter is always the busy time for us, too.

As for potty training--good luck, I've never had a kid afraid of the potty. Mine always thought it was a toy.

Love the new random post. No advice on the potty. My mom and mom-in-law trained Marissa while in town with the twins. Shem is 4 months older than Micah and still pooping it up in his pullup, though he will pee. Good luck with that:)

That's pretty funny about your sign-from what you've told me, I agree that it's your landlady!

Sorry you're getting a cold-mommies shouldn't be allowed to get sick during the week(and only on the weekend if daddy is home).

I've done the required reading. Call when you're up for a long chat:)

otmail.comI love your blog.
I can't help with the potty training. I have heard of kids being afraid of the potty but don't know what to do about it.
David is so cute, I just want to squizz him.
Sorry your getting a cold, we have it here but I didn't send any germs your way.
Lucas playing basketball!! Oh man his Grandpa is going to be so sad that he isn't going to see him start out. He couldn't have a better teacher for shooting. You will need to teach him all your moves. But with the way he runs he may change his mind about playing soccer.
Well I got to go talk to you later.

So fun to see your growing family Deanna! Your boys are just adorable. Potty-training...I'm a waiter myself because I think they are more ready and it doesn't take very long this way. We just got Evan potty trained. Different things work for each child I've learned but for him...we set a timer for the first two weeks and every time the timer went off her just knew he HAD to sit on the potty or he got in trouble. Eventually it just became a habit...pavlov's dog I guess. :-) It worked splendidly for him. Good luck with that! Sure love you.
