Carving Shrek
On Monday Micah, Lucas and I went to the local pumpkin patch to pic
k out our pumpkin. The pumpkin patch was kind of a funny thing. Lots of pumpkins sorted by size with a big sign reading "no kicking, jumping, hitting, punching, ect. the pumpkins. Parents are responsible for paying for pumpkins that are damaged." It was a very large sign and very detailed. As I was reading it Lucas and Micah both jumped up against the sign attacking it. I quickly told them to stop and then Lucas ran around the sign while I put Micah back in his stroller. I come around the sign and here is Lucas hitting and kicking the pumpkins. I guess when little boys see lots of pumpkins their first reaction is to destroy. Or at least that is what my children think:) Luckily no damage was done. Lucas quickly picked one pumpkin out and two small ones. I was thankful he went with the one he did since they were so expensive. (or maybe I'm just cheap:)) The whole experience took 10 minutes thankfully.
That night Jon and Lucas carved the pumpkin while I watched and Micah slept. Micah fell asleep at 6:15 that night so he missed the whole thing. I don't really think he cared much. We stole our pumpkin tradition from our good friends the Marsdens. After the pumpkin is carved we light it up and turn the lights off. Lucas picks the name which this year he named it Shrek. And then Lucas makes up a story about the pumpkin with the help of mom and dad. It's fun to hear the creative process of Lucas telling stories. He is quite creative in his play.

Thanks so much for the posting of the Halloween pictures. I was hoping to share more of the Halloween experiences of my grandchildren and actually came upon these by accident -- when I noticed today that little "Olsen Odyssey" sign at the top of my screen and had enough sense to click on it.
What a great Halloween tradition! The boys look so cute and so happy.
Love,
