Growing Up: Lucas

I have been wanting to walk down memory lane and remember Lucas's first 5 years of life. I have actually been wanting to make a book for each child with two pictures for each month of their life and then keep adding to it throughout the years. I started this process last year and never got anything accomplished. Very typical of me and I keep telling myself maybe this year.

Lucas is the first born and I'm pretty sure Jon and I demand more out of him than the other two without always realizing it. I am constantly reminding myself that he is learning, he is innocent, and he always wants to do good. I think many times I have treated him like he should be older than he actually is. This probably happens to many firstborns - the parents not knowing exactly what to expect so expecting too much. Throughout the years there have been many times I foolishly have found myself wanting him to get older. Looking through the pictures I am amazed how quickly my baby became a toddler, and then a big boy and then now he is a boy; a kid, a child. He is not little anymore (I'm not talking physically here, we all know he is small, besides him of course. Please don't tell him, he'll figure it out someday:) ).

It is as if the child ages overnight whether you notice or not.

The firstborn is the guinea pig if you will. When the second child comes around you kind of know what to expect, have something to compare too, and at the same time know the child will grow-up before your eyes can adjust. So you cherish the moments a little longer and hope they don't go by too fast. But they do and thankfully there are pictures to go back to and remember the little moments that helped shape your little baby into a child. These our my memories of my baby (as his mother he will always be my baby, as all my boys will be).

We all know that children grow-up fast. So today squeeze your little ones a little tighter because they might just grow an inch in their sleep tonight and lose all of their baby fat. And remember they are innocent and so full of love.

What a sweet post. They do grow up too fast. I will sometimes squeeze Olivia and ask her not to grow anymore but she just looks at me, squeezes back, and tells me she can't help it. So I just try and remember the squeezes in all their stages.

But then one day you might have a girl, and then all bets are off. ;)

You are right Derrick. But, I have a strong feeling that if I want a girl I'll have to be brave and crazy enough to have more then 4 kids. Don't know if that'll happen:) I mean I'll definitely be crazy enough just not brave enough:)

I think I'm too hard on Caelyn a lot. Zerah has it easy. Thanks for the reminder to cherish them when they're little.

What a cute, sweet boy, that's lucky enough to have a loving family.

Thanks for a fun post of watching Lucas grow. It really is amazing how fast they change and develop. I think 1st babies will always have a special place in their parents hearts.
