Award Winning Art

We attended our first award ceremony on Saturday. Lucas won 2nd place in the West Hollywood Healthy Kids Fair Art Contest. We were so proud of him. It was awesome. The theme was "What I Want to Be When I Grow Up."

Lucas drew a picture about police officers.

At first, we had trouble finding his picture. We found all of the pictures that had been drawn by his classmates, but we couldn't find his. Police officers was a fairly common theme. It appears that several of Lucas's buddies also want to be police officers when they grow up.

The first place "Cheerleader" picture was not drawn by one of Lucas's buddies. He doesn't play with girls at school.

We found Lucas's picture in a separate section with the other prize-winners. It's really pretty cool. The guys in blue are all police officers. Notice that they are smiling. The guys with orange eyes are bad guys. They are in jail. Notice that the bad guys are not smiling.

Even four-year-olds understand that jail is no fun.

Lucas's prizes included sidewalk chalk, mess-free finger paints and a motion-sensor obnoxious talking monkey based on the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean." Yes, this toy can be set up to be activated by simply waving your hand in front of the little sensor at the monkey's feet.

It has no volume control. The batteries probably last forever. It must have been purchased by someone who has no children and does not understand the concept of constant noise.

Congratulations Lucas! Are you going to frame the picture?

Deanna, I hadn't really planned on running the SF Half-Marathon but now I'm thinking about it. I've been keeping up with my running so I'm sure I'd be ready for it. Are you doing it?
