I took Lucas to the park today, so he could show me that he can go across the monkey bars (he has been talking about this all week).
When we left the park, I told him that I love him.
He responded, "Yeah, because I can do the monkey bars."
I clarified, "I'd love you even if you couldn't do the monkey bars, but it is really great that you can do the monkey bars."
He kind of looked at me funny and hopped into the van. I don't think he understood the clarification.
We had the same conversation when we got home.

He'll understand someday that his mommy and daddy love him no matter what he can and cannot do. That our parental love in unconditional.
